Historical Background of the College

The Ahlus-Suffah College of Education, (ASCOE), Rigasa is located in Rigasa. The town lies between latitude 10.30 and 10.50 degrees North and longitude 07.20 and 7.40 degrees East. Located at a distance of about 4855km from the atlantic ocean, it is about 15 kilometers West of Kaduna, the Capital of Kaduna state.

Ahlus-suffah college of Education was intended to be established in year 2019 with the sole aim of improving learning and teaching profession in the Northern region and the country at large. In Rigasa community it was observed some parents were unable to send their children to further their education due to the following reasons:

  1. Fear of sending children to far community to pursue for their education due to the immoral acts which are rampant in the society
  2. The culture of restricting female gender to acquire knowledge in northern region of the country
  3. To improve knowledge through government supervision to private institution which inturn breeds quality students and as well teachers.
  4. Standardizing learning process and implementing it as it is the only way of developing a human life.
  5. Reducing the cost of sending the learners to another sate/community to earn same certificate.
  6. To bring government closer to the people for their development.

Authorization to Start Operations

Authorization to start operations was given in July, 2022 by National Commission for Colleges of Education with an initial intake of sixty three (63) students.

Our Mission

The mission of the college is to create an enabling environment where teaching, learning, research and community activities can take place among teaching and non teaching staff, students and the public for the overall benefit of the teaching profession in Nigeria and abroad through a resourceful, transparent, firm and just leadership

Our Vision

Ahlus-suffah College of Education aims at being a model teachers' training institution in Nigeria for the achievement of academic excellence through teaching, learning and research for the professionalization of teaching to meet global standards

Objectives of the college

Briefly, the aim and objectives for establishing the college, at the takeoff, could be summarized as follows;

  1. To provide professionally non-graduate teachers of northern origin to man the Secondary and Teacher Training colleges in the region.
  2. To provide professionally qualified Assistant Inspector for primary schools

Physical Facilities

In terms of physical facilities, the College has adequate lecture halls, functional laboratories/workshops and adequate staff offices for each of the four schools: Arts & social Sciences, Education, Languages and Sciences.

In addition to these, there are two large lecture Theatres with a capacity of accommodating one hundred (100) students. Also worthy of note is the fact that the college has a beautiful and spacious library building, which is well equipped with relevant books, journals and other study materials, including an internet facility. With the excellent facilities available, the library provides efficient services to the staff and students of the College who constitute the bulk of its readership.

Staffing

One factor that has earned the College tremendous respects among its peers is its large crop of highly trained experienced and professionally competent staff in all the academic and administrative departments. For instance, of the Forty – Five (45) Academic staff in the College, not fewer than one have a masters degrees or its equivalent, while five (5) have PhD degrees. Several other staff are in the process of acquiring higher degrees in their fields of specialization. All this is indicative of the superior quality of research and teaching which the College provides.

Students Population

The students’population of the College as at first year of admission. The total students' population as at 2022/2023 matriculation was about sixty-three. This indeed, is a significant number, but accords with the excellent facilities available in the institution.

Research and Teaching

The College has also maintained a leadership role in the area of scholarly research and publication as evidenced by the large number of contributions by many of the lecturers to various reputable academic journals within the country. The College has actively encouraged the writing publication of textbooks by many individuals staff.
